Advices & Recommendations

The leisure biking itinerary is not a cycle path. It takes its course along the regional traffic routes. One must respect the Highway Code and be vigilant at all times.

A few words of advice before you start :

  • The region is very busy from June to September and during the school holiday periods, take this into consideration and remember to book in advance.
  • Be sure to have with you certain indispensable items which can ensure the success of your holiday outings: helmets, repair kits, tyre pumps, padlocks, maps, waterproofs…
  • Run a few tests on your bike (gear changing, brakes function, lights, batteries charge [VAE / electrically assisted bikes])
  • When encountering a steep slope, change gear…(never use a chain combination running from the same size chain-ring as the rear cog wheel e.g. from the biggest chain-ring to the biggest rear cog-wheel. The idea is to keep the chain as parallel with the centerline and the sprockets. In this way the bike will run smoother and perform better.)
  • Always take water with you (at least 1 litre / 2 pints per person) and a picnic (facilities are sometimes few and far between).
  • Remember not to leave litter after your picnic. Take it back with you or dispose of it correctly.
  • Be sure to inform the rental service of your destination and estimated arrival time at the recovery point.
  • If you are tempted to pick lavender, one stem should suffice, it is far more beautiful when left in all its glory in the field. As for helping oneself to fruit and vegetables along roadside, (melons, apricots, cherries, grapes, etc.) better push on to the village grocer’s or stop at one of the farm shops along the route where you will be served with a smile.
  • It is forbidden to light fires.

The Conservation of Natural Wildlife Sites :

The conservation of the natural wildlife is a major issue. Preserving the fragile ecosystem or protecting rare plants and animals and safeguarding the characteristic countryside of this region makes it necessary for everyone to observe a few basic rules and respect a good conduct code.

Adopt the Luberon attitude !

Helpful advice for visitors to this natural environment can be found at any information centre eg. La Mairie, (The Town Hall), les offices de tourisme (Tourist Information Offices), La Maison du Parc (The Natural Park Offices).
